Polish Pottery Info

Polish pottery is created in Boleslawiec, a small town of Lower Silesia in Poland. The stoneware is made of specific type of clay found only in the region. The pottery is fired at the very high temperatures with a non-toxic glaze free of lead and cadmium. As a result, the Polish pottery is very durable, impervious to abrasives, and will not crack or chip easily. It is safe for use in the dishwasher, microwave, oven, and freezer. It is easy to clean.

Excellent craftsmanship can be seen in each piece. Skilled artists individually handcraft and hand-paint each piece of pottery using a hand stamping technique and free-hand design. The artists continue working with the traditional patterns, as well as creating the modern designs which many become the signature patterns called “Unikat”. Each Unikat piece is made by highly skilled artist with the signature of each author at the bottom of the piece. They take more time to make, and they are typically more expensive. Since each piece is an individual artwork, no two pieces are exactly alike.

Polish pottery is safe for use in the dishwasher, microwave, oven, and freezer; non-toxic, lead and cadmium free. However, if food is frozen in the stoneware, it must be thawed to room temperature before placing in the oven. Cold water or frozen food should not be placed in the hot stoneware. Avoid the sudden temperature change from cold to hot or vice versa as pottery needs time to adjust to changing temperatures. Place a small amount of water in the dish when cooking a meat. Never place the stoneware over an open flame, directly on the hot stove top burner, or under broiler.

We hope that you will enjoy the exquisite craftsmanship of Polish Pottery!
